How to use the paladin name generator
- Pick a race, or leave it on Any. The name itself sounds like that race: a dwarf paladin gets a solid dwarf name with a clan, a dragonborn one puts the clan first.
- Pick a tone. Radiant paladins bring light and hope; grim ones bring justice and never sleep; gentle ones heal and shelter.
- Choose what to show: full names with a title, names with an epithet, epithets only, or names for holy orders.
- Swear your oath in the game below the list, then copy it onto your character sheet.

How paladin names work
A paladin's name has more parts than most, because a paladin is a public figure: people pray for them, sing about them and fear them. In our generator a full paladin name has four parts:
- A title: Sir or Dame for knights of the realm, Brother or Sister for those from a temple, Warden or Oathsworn for anyone.
- A name that fits the paladin's race, with a family or clan name where that race uses one.
- An epithet earned by a deed: Dawnbringer for the one who held the gate until morning, Ashvow for the one who swore over a burned village.
- An order, such as the Order of the Silver Lantern, which shows under the name. Many paladins serve one; some are the last of theirs.
Paladins are a class in the free D&D rules (SRD 5.1 and 5.2), where they swear a sacred oath. The epithets, orders and vows on this page are our own, and they fit any oath.

Holy orders
An order's name usually joins a colour or a quality to an object that stands for its oath: a lantern for those who guide, a shield for those who protect, a chalice for those who heal. Some orders from the generator: Order of the Silver Rose, Order of the Quiet Feather, Order of the Sapphire Gauntlet, Order of the Winter Oak, Order of the White Feather, Order of the Golden Flame. If your order needs a coat of arms and a motto, the Knight Name Generator makes those too.
Paladins of every race
Paladins come from every people. A few names for paladins who aren't human:
- Dwarf: Drakuna Frostbraid Lightbearer, Ulfa Mountainborn the Relentless
- Dragonborn: Nabozen Meshnekis Brightblade, Anuozen Rar Sunshield
- Tiefling: Sazesk Starward, Keris the Unforgiving
- Half-orc: Rokka Oakhollow the Unsleeping, Thokul Deepby Peakclimber the Gentle Blade
Swear your oath
The game under the list writes an oath for your paladin: a name for the vow, and three promises in the tone you chose. Read them aloud at the table the first time your paladin draws a sword. They're also a gift to your DM, who can test each vow in play. Some of the vows it can choose:
- Radiant: I will be a light where there is none. I will tell the truth, even when it costs me.
- Grim: I will not rest while the guilty walk free. I will finish what my order started.
- Gentle: I will heal before I harm. I will shelter any traveller who asks.
Tips for naming your paladin
- Earn the epithet in play. Start with just a name, and let the party give you your epithet after your first great deed.
- Let the tone match the god. A gentle paladin of a harvest goddess and a grim paladin of a god of justice will sound very different.
- Make the order a story. Is it famous, forgotten, or fallen? A paladin who is the last of their order has a ready-made quest.
- Break the mould. A tiefling paladin called "the Radiant" or a goblin called "Dawnbringer" makes everyone at the table look twice.
