Which race tool do I need?

  • I want a new, original race: use the Fantasy Race Generator. One click gives looks, culture, abilities, history, names and a portrait.
  • I play D&D and need a race fast: the D&D Race Picker spins or picks from the free-rules species, 30 classic races and your own list.
  • I want a playable homebrew race: the Homebrew Race Builder shows a live balance meter as you add traits.
  • I need names: the Race Name Generator names whole peoples; the D&D Name Generator names characters of every race.
  • I want to see my character: the Portrait Maker draws a portrait instantly, with no AI.
  • I want to do it myself, properly: our 12-step guide walks you from the first idea to a tested race, with a printable worksheet.

How the race tools work together

The tools pass your work to each other, so you never start from scratch. A race from the generator opens in the Homebrew Race Builder with its traits filled in, and in the Age Calculator with its own lifespan. A race you pick on the wheel can be sent to the builder too. The builder sends its portrait to the Portrait Maker, where you can change every part. Whatever you make, you can save it in your browser, share it as a link or download it.

Three tips for choosing a race

  1. Start from the story, not the numbers. Ask what your character wants and what holds them back, then pick the race that makes that harder or more interesting.
  2. Play against type. A shy goliath or a reckless elf is more memorable than one who fits every stereotype.
  3. Check the lifespan. A long-lived race changes how your character sees time, friends and loss. The Age Calculator shows what an age really means.

Every tool runs in your browser, needs no account and gives results you can keep, change and use in your own stories and games.
